Maher PDF

Convert PDF to an editable Word document

PDF to Word turns a PDF into a .docx document that opens in Microsoft Word, Google Docs, LibreOffice and Word on phones.

Choose a PDF to convert Accepts: One PDF file. Free, no sign-up.

Your files are processed inside this browser tab and are not uploaded to Maher PDF. Scanned pages are read by an OCR engine hosted on maherpdf.com that runs on your device; your file stays on your device. Please read the Privacy Policy before working with sensitive documents.

In Editable Word mode the converter analyses each page's layout: it keeps the page size and margins, places every paragraph at its original position with its font, size, bold, italic and colour, rebuilds ruled tables as real Word tables (including merged cells, borders and cell shading), keeps logos, photos and graphics in their original positions, recreates two-column layouts, and moves text that repeats at the top or bottom of every page into Word headers and footers, with live page numbers. Coordinates, chainages and other numbers are copied exactly as written.

Exact look mode places a picture of each page in Word: it looks identical but isn't editable. Scanned pages are read with OCR (English, Arabic, or both). The OCR engine is hosted on maherpdf.com itself; it downloads once (about 6 MB) and then works offline. Your file is never sent anywhere.

Key features

  • Page size, orientation and margins kept page by page.
  • Fonts, sizes, bold, italic and colours per line.
  • Ruled tables rebuilt as Word tables with merged cells, borders and shading.
  • Logos, photos and drawings kept in position.
  • Headers and footers with live page numbers; two-column layouts.
  • OCR for scans, with deskewing, table-line detection and a confidence report.

Supported files

Input: one PDF. Output: a .docx file. Text in multi-column regions keeps its original line breaks; elsewhere lines are joined into paragraphs. Tables without visible lines are kept as aligned text with tab stops. Rotated text is placed horizontally.

Privacy and security

Conversion runs in your browser. For scanned pages the OCR engine, hosted on maherpdf.com, is downloaded to your device once; recognition happens on your device.

Common problems

The layout isn't identical.
PDF stores positioned text, Word uses flowing paragraphs, so complex layouts are approximations. If appearance matters more than editing, use Exact look mode.
A scanned page has mistakes.
OCR accuracy depends on the scan. The result card shows the confidence per page; check names, numbers and dates against the original.
A table came out as text.
Tables are rebuilt when they have ruling lines. Tables drawn only with spacing stay as aligned text.

Tips

  • If you only need to change a few words, Edit PDF may be quicker than converting.
  • Step-by-step advice is in the PDF to Word guide.

Is my document uploaded?

No. The conversion, including OCR, runs in your browser.
